Police are appealing for witnesses after a 77-year-old woman was tied up during a robbery at her home.
Three men barged their way into the pensioner’s property in Bingley Road, Menston on Friday, July 3rd.
She had gone to the door at around 11pm after hearing a noise outside, at which point the gang forced their way into her home.
The victim’s hands were tied and the three men searched the house, taking cash and jewellery – including an expensive diamond bracelet.
The woman was then dragged upstairs and the burglars threatened to hurt her if she did not tell them where the safe was.
Fortunately she was able to set off a personal attack alarm and the men were forced to flee.
Det Insp Phil Jackson, of Leeds District CID, said: “This was clearly a really frightening experience for the victim and we are currently carrying out extensive enquiries to trace the men responsible.
“Bingley Road itself is a fairly out of the way location and these men are likely to have stood out.
“We would like to hear from anyone who thinks they have seen them in the area either before the incident or escaping from the scene.”
Robbery is an extremely serious offence – it can only be heard in the Crown Court and carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. If you are facing charges of this nature and need legal advice, contact Minton Morrill’s Criminal Law team today.
