West Yorkshire Police Shooting: Man Dies near M62 after Police Operation

  • Posted

A police firearm was discharged at about 18:00 on Monday 2 January 2017 near Huddersfield during a pre planned policing operation surrounding an Audi Vehicle, taking the life of an unknown male.

Five people have been arrested in relation to this operation, three of which were arrested from the scene. Photographs of the vehicle show that at least 3 shots were fired.

The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Statistics reveal the incident was the fifth fatal police shooting in England and Wales in the past nine months and the first involving West Yorkshire Police since December 2010.

The Civil Liberties department here at Minton Morrill Solicitors have represented bereaved families at two police shooting inquests involving West Yorkshire Police.
