Criminal law solicitors
Facing criminal charges of any description can be an extremely daunting prospect, particularly if you have never been in trouble with the law before.
If you, a relative or a friend are facing allegations of a criminal nature then seeking expert legal advice at the earliest opportunity can make a real difference. ‘The earliest opportunity’ can be when the Police come looking for you and they leave a ‘contact card’. We can contact the Police and make enquiries on your behalf and arrange a convenient time for you to attend for an interview at the Police Station. We will attend with you and advise you throughout that process. If the matter then proceeds to Court, which is not always the case, we can assist you throughout those proceedings.
Advice and assistance within the Police Station is free of charge, whatever your income. If a case proceeds to the Court, an application can be made for your representation to be funded through the Legal Aid Agency. This is referred to as ‘Legal Aid’ and eligibility for it depends upon the type of case you are facing and the level of your income. If you are granted funding and your case proceeds to the Crown Court, the funding extends to cover your representation, including Advocates’ fees.
If a matter reaches Court, then specialist legal representation is essential to ensure that the best possible defence is put forward on your behalf. Our Solicitors are able to represent you every step of the way from your first interview at the Police Station, right through the Magistrates Court to the Crown Court ensuring, that you have consistency in all stages of your representation.
At Minton Morrill, our specialist solicitors have built a strong reputation for providing first class representation in all areas of criminal law for clients in Leeds, Bradford, Hull, West Yorkshire, East Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and the wider North of England.
When you instruct us, you can expect sympathetic and realistic advice about the best way forward. If you choose to plead ‘not guilty’ then we will provide the best possible defence, using our expertise to draw on often little known areas of law which can mean the difference between a conviction and an acquittal. Alternatively, if you choose to plead guilty, we will work hard to secure a reduced sentence or lower penalties.
