R v T

Sara Lyle successfully challenges 18 week custodial sentence received for RSPCA offences and sentence reduced to 14 weeks.

This client was recommended to use Miss Lyle after being summonsed to Court in relation to causing unnecessary suffering to animals and animal cruelty.  The defendant pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and was sentenced to custody for a period of 18 weeks in custody for each offence.  Sara Lyle felt this sentence was manifestly excessive and she advised the defendant to appeal.  She conducted the appeal herself in the Crown Court and the sentence reduced to 14 weeks in custody.  The case attracted national press coverage.
