Damage to Ureter Following Hysterectomy

M underwent a hysterectomy operation. Unknown to her at the time her right ureter was damaged. Despite her complaining of urinary leakage there appeared to have been a delay in considering the possibility of a ureteric injury but finally a referral was made to the Urologist. However, as a result of the damage and the delay in referral M was left with urinary urgency, incontinence and stress incontinence. She also ended up with an infection to the abdominal wall.

We were able to show through independent expert evidence that the treatment which M received fell below reasonably acceptable standards. However, this was not accepted by the hospital involved and it was necessary to issue Court proceedings.  However, eventually it was possible to resolve the claim with M accepting the sum of £13,000.00 in full and final settlement of her claim.
